Speaking to mid-day, the woman said, “I live in Powai and was heading home when the man shouted out ‘Item!’ I asked the auto driver to slow down and asked him why he had called me that. He began to argue with me. When I objected, he dragged me out of the auto, saying he was a cop.”
The constable then hurled abuses at her and began to assault her in public, at which point passers-by gathered and asked what he was doing. According to witnesses, he then yelled that he was with the Mumbai Police and would teach everyone a lesson if they interfered. The crowd thrashed him and held him there until the Powai police turned up to take him to the police station.
