Drunk cop rams bike into pedestrian, abuses locals on Mumbai street

A Constable attached to the Pydhonie police station, in high spirits, showed the ugly side of possessing power when he started to threaten and abuse locals who had collected after his bike collided into a pedestrian.

To serve and protect? Constable Bhanudas Sanap (in striped shirt) started abusing locals who had gathered at the spot and threatened them

Constable Bhanudas Sanap was returning home from duty when in an inebriated condition he rammed his bike into a pedestrian identified as Bhanu Tukaram Kakade at Char Rasta, Azad Nagar, Wadala at 2 pm. Kakade said, “I was on my way home, when from out of nowhere, Sanap turned up and hit me. I was thrown across the road.”

Immediately after the incident, locals collected at the spot and caught Sanap and discovered that he had been riding in an inebriated condition.

Instead of being apologetic, Sanap then turned hostile and violent and started abusing the locals who had gathered at the spot. Kakade said, “After being held by the locals, he started shouting and saying, ‘Mein police wala hoon aur sabko andar band kar dunga. Tum sab ko dekh loonga (I am a policeman. I will put all of you behind bars).’ When one of the bystanders said that he would complain to the DCP, Sanap abused him and started hitting the locals.”

Not the first time
The drama soon subsided after police officials reached the spot and detained Sanap. Incidentally, this is not the first time that Sanap has been found drunk.
“Every time, he is on duty, he is drunk. We have received several complaints against him,” said an official from Pydhonie police station.

RAK Marg police officials confirming the incident said that they were now awaiting Sanap’s medical report.

Senior Inspector Vilas Wankhede of RAK police station said, “We are waiting for medical report. It is alleged that Sanap was in an inebriated state for which we are waiting for his medical reports. Necessary action will be taken against Sanap.”u00a0
