The second Airbus A380, the world's largest passenger jet that can carry a maximum of 853 flyers, will land at Mumbai airport's new Terminal 2 in wee hours tonight.

The A380 flight EK500 will take off from T3 in Dubai and land in Mumbai at 2.30am. With this, Emirates commences its first scheduled Airbus A380 service to India, which will have daily flights between Dubai and Mumbai.

The return flight EK501 will take off from Terminal 2 in Mumbai at 04:30hrs and return to Emirates Terminal 3 in Dubai, the airline’s home and hub for its specially designed A380 terminal, at 06.00 hours.

With the services that will commence in few hours, Mumbai International Airport will be the only one in the country to have two Jumbo A380s. This means that no other airport in India has two international double Decker A 380s catering to any airport.

"We are delighted to welcome the arrival of Emirates’ first A 380 to India in Mumbai. We are glad that passengers flying from Mumbai’s Terminal 2 to Dubai will now be able to enjoy the premium services of Emirates’ state-of-the-art Airbus A 380. This is a momentous occasion for us as Chhatrapati Shivaji International airport (CSIA) Mumbai is now the only airport in India to handle A 380 aircraft operations for more than one international airline," explained an official.

Another official added, "This is yet another milestone event to our continuous endeavor to enhance the comfort and convenience of passengers traveling through CSIA and justifies our operational capabilities to handle bigger aircraft at T2."
