Known as the Fire Knock Out (FKO), this lightweight portable box-like device invented in the Netherlands eliminates fire on contact. Its container splits open, removing all oxygen around the area. The fire is put out instantly. FKO contains water and an alcohol-resistant aqueous film forming foam (AFFF) solution. Water vapour is the main extinguishing agent and the AFFF solution forms the blanket to avoid re-igniting. Raajesh Kapoor, CEO of Monsher Fire Protection System Private Limited, that is introducing the product in India, says, "This system has been successfully used to curb forest fires in Netherlands by their fire department. This could have helped in the dome fire at the Taj Mahal hotel during the 26/11 attacks. The firemen wouldn't have had to go near the fire and if it was installed within, the damage would have been much lesser," adds Kapoor.
