Five days after the police found the bodies of four menu00a0and the Kurar quadruple murder case emerged, the police and officials from the Crime Branch have intensified their manhunt after they received tip-offs that Uday Pathak, the main accused in the case, is holed up in the jungles in Thane district.

Authorities from the Crime Branch told MiD DAY that they had received information that Pathak had taken shelter at the house of a local goon, which has also served as a safe haven for other gangsters in exile in the past.

"Pathak has been changing his hideout and location constantly and finding him has been tough," said an officer from the Kurar police station. Teams from the Crime Branch have visited more than three locations to track Pathak in the past five days.

Officials said that they are awaiting Pathak's phone records, which will provide them with useful information about his whereabouts.

"His phone records will also help us ascertain whether the woman who lodged the non-cognisable complaint against him on Saturday is falsely providing him with an alibi," said a police officer.

Meanwhile, the police has detained 15 men from Kurar village who were close tou00a0 Pathak. Confirming the round-up, the officer added, "These men were close to Pathak and might be able to provide insights into Pathak's location. Hence we are questioning them."

Some insiders say they have seen Pathak limping around, which is a popular ploy used by hardcore criminals to avoid being killed in police encounters.

The police have, so far, arrested five people for their involvement in the Kurar murders, who have been remanded to police custody till June 15.
