Two of his classmates bludgeoned Mukeem Khan to death and dumped his body in gutter and after that called his parents to demand ransom

In a chilling reminder of the sensational Adnan Patrawala case in 2007, another teenager from Mumbai, Mukeem

Khan (17), a Std XII student from Bandra's Rizvi College, was allegedly murdered by two of his classmates on Friday.

Sheikh also revealed that he, along with another classmate, first killed Mukeem and later called his parents to demand ransom.

After Mukeem was untraceable, his father Rizvi Khan, who owns a building in Khar, lodged a missing complaint on Friday.

According to the complaint, Mukeem left the house at 8 am on Friday for Kalina, after he received a call from two of his classmates saying they had managed to get leaked copies of the HSC examination question papers. Mukeem told his parents that he was going to meet Sheikh. That afternoon, Mukeem's parents received a call demanding a ransom of Rs 3 crore.

After Mukeem's family lodged a complaint, the police interrogated many friends, one of whom was Sheikh. His behaviour raised suspicion and after a tough interrogation, he confessed to the crime.

Sheikh was arrested last night and will be produced before the Metropolitan Magistrate court in Bandra today. The police are on the lookout for the other classmate, suspected to be involved in the murder.u00a0u00a0

"Sheikh and the other youth hammered him to death. They tied his body with a piece of cloth and dumped him in the gutter," revealed sources from the police force.

"Yesterday, when the police interrogated Sheikh, the mystery unfolded. The body was badly decomposed and was difficult to identify. The college ID card recovered from the bag along with the body helped us identify Mukeem," said a neighbour, who went to identify the body.

Shy boy
"Mukeem was a well-mannered, shy boy. He would keep away from conflicts of any sort and was close to his family," he added.
Mukeem is the youngest member of the family and has three older sisters.u00a0

The Adnan Patrawala case
Adnan Patrawala (16) from Lokhandwala was killed on August 19, 2007, by three young men, who befriended him through Orkut. Sujith Nair (28), Ayush Bhat (19), and Himmesh Ambavat (18), confessed to killing Adnan by strangling him.
They kidnapped Adnan and asked his parents for a ransom of Rs 2 crore. But when they learnt that the news of the kidnap was being broadcasted on national television, they panicked, killed him and deserted his body in the marshes at Navi Mumbai. The police had suspected that the three kidnapped Adnan to sustain their expensive lifestyles.
