Vendors claim the price of flowers most commonly used during the 10-day festival has increased considerably owing to the shortfall of flowers thanks to the heavy downpour

This Ganesh Chaturthi, you may have to worship the Lord sans any flowers as the continuous downpour has affected the supply of the flowers in the market.

Owing to the heavy showers, the new batch of flowers has been affected and the prices have also doubled, leaving vendors worried and anxious.

Owing to the heavy downpour, only 30 per cent of the
flowers' stock has reached the retail market, say vendors

Expressing his worry, Sopan Duraphe, a vendor in a flower shop, said, "Florists and vendors are worried because the heavy rainfall has damaged the stock rendering them useless."

He added, "Only 30 per cent of flowers have reached the daily market."

Every year during this period, the sale of yellow calendula and marigold increases as they are often used for Ganesh deities across the city.

However, the price of yellow calendulas (gendas) that was Rs 30 two days back has increased to Rs 60 per kg.
Similarly, chrysanthemums that sold for Rs 100 two days back are now selling for Rs 240.
