Govinda's cash on Holi case: Poll officials approach police

Mumbai suburban District Collector on Tuesday asked police to further probe the alleged distribution of currency notes to some people during Holi celebrations by filmstar and Congress sitting MP Govinda.

"This afternoon, we handed over the case to Juhu police and we have asked them to probe the issue further if necessary and initiate appropriate action," Mumbai suburban District Collector and District Election Officer Vishwas Patil said.

Asked what sort of action was recommended to police, Patil said, "it is for the police to decide."

Govinda had, last week, submitted a written explanation following a notice issued to him in connection with the alleged distribution of money.

A senior poll official also quizzed the MP from Mumbai North seat on the matter. The incident took place at Govinda's residence in Juhu.

The actor-politician has said it was customary to give money on Holi to underprivileged people. He also highlighted the fact that his residence did not fall under Mumbai North constituency.

On March 12, the election authorities had announced an inquiry into the allegations that Govinda distributed currency notes to people outside his residence on Holi.
