The lack of public toilets — particularly in slums — and a proper storm water drainage system, the shortage of drinking water and frequently dug-up roads in this ward were highlighted in mid-day’s June 13 report. Residents say most of these issues are still unresolved.

Slums close to the mangroves and the coast, like the shanties near Bandra Government Colony, face a major hurdle in building toilets owing to stringent coastal regulations. Often, heaps of sewerage are left beside cleaned drains as are uncleared garbage and debris from construction sites. Road repairs ahead of the monsoon were a hack job and water pressure is too low.
