A sessions court on Wednesday adjourned the hearing on trial of Shiney Ahuja in a rape case till October 16 after the actor's lawyer submitted that the Bombay High Court has stayed the framing of charges for a week.

The arguments on the framing of charges was expected to be heard by the court today. The Bombay High Court had yesterday stayed the framing of charges against Ahuja until next week after the prosecution sought time to reply to the petition filed by the actor seeking forensic and medical reports.

The 36-year-old actor, holding his wife Anupam's hands throughout the trial, was spotted wearing a tilak from the Siddhivinayak temple, where he offered prayers this morning.

Ahuja's lawyer Shrikant Shivade today informed the trial court about the High Court order after which Judge SR Trivedi adjourned the matter till October 16. The court will however not frame charges on that day and has exempted Ahuja from appearing before the court.

Shivade had approached the High Court seeking copies of the medical and forensic reports of both the actor and the victim. The Ahuja's lawyer had claimed before the sessions court that the DNA samples of the accused and victim did not match.

The actor, who usually used to be seated in the place where the accused are made to sit, today sat with his wife in one of the chairs. The sessions court had earlier rejected Shivade's application observing that the defence lawyer did not require the documents to argue on the framing of charges.

Ahuja has been accused of raping his domestic maid at his residence in suburban Oshiwara on June 14 after calling her to his bedroom on the pretext of getting a glass of water.

The Mumbai police had on August 13 filed a 109-page chargesheet against the actor accusing him of rape, wrongful confinement and intimidation. The chargesheet consisted of medical reports which indicated Ahuja had sexual intercourse with his maid.

The forensic experts also found that semen stains on the victim matched with the actor's DNA sample.
