Board divisional secretary Basanti Roy said that while helpline operators had received calls from burnt out students last year, they had to turn them away for lack of professional expertise.
However now, if a distressed student calls the helpline, the call will be forwarded to one of their four experts, who are working for free.
A total of 16,84,226 students this year from Maharashtra will give their HSC and SSC examinations.
"When a student knows that the Board will deal with his anxiety it makes it far more credible than any regular helpline," said psychiatrist Rajendra Barve, who works with IIT hospital is one of the experts who will offer counseling.
"The fact that they have a reliable place to seek help will make them feel better instantly."
