IT experts to discuss white paper on unique ID card

Vijay Mukhi, Chairman and Dr P Shekar, Executive Member of Micro Secure Think Tank will discuss a white paper on the the National Unique ID card in length today. Speaking to MiD DAY, Mukhi said, "We will act as a pressure group and ensure that the points raised in our platform are adhered to while finalizing the specifications of the ID card."

"One significant reason for every Indian citizen to have an Unique ID is to fight terror as no other country in the world has suffered as much as we have. The first initiative we see of combating terror is by uniquely identifying every Indian. This is a starting point in the war against terror. Unless we do this, we cannot even think of fighting the war against terror. We need to take many dramatic steps starting with a Nation ID card project. Once implemented lots of sectors like Banking, Insurance etc would use these cards for business uses. We would like the government to recoup some of its costs by charging these large users," said Dr P Shekar, Executive Member of Micro Secure Think Tank (Micro STT)u00a0

The central government had recently appointed Infosys co-chairman Nandan Nilekani as the Chairman of the Unique Identification Authority, formed to issue IDs to every citizen.

Tech and security gurus from the city have jotted certain key points pertaining to the identity card, which they expect the government to consider at the time of making the final specifications for the National Unique ID card.
