Indian Twitter users are a worried lotu00a0-- but it's not the state of the government that's keeping them preoccupied. A recent Digital Health Index survey conducted by Brandtology, a company that tracks social media conversations and trends, found that depression, anxiety and stress make up most of the conversations Indian netizens have on health-related issues.
It also found that Twitter was our medium of choice to discuss health matters. The survey was conducted among nine countries in the Asia Pacific region, including Australia, China and Japan between October to December 2010, and its findings were released last week.
The DHI maps 19 diseases and health conditions across 10 online channels including blogs, forums, and news outlets, on a quarterly basis (four times a year).u00a0 Infectious diseases came second in the list of what Indian Internet users discussed. Cardiovascular disease, which is the number one health concern in the country ranked four in the top 10 diseases discussed online according to the survey, while cancer ranked seventh.
Indians also discussed issues like acne and pimples, but unlike the Malaysians and Indonesians for who skin disease ranked number one in their list of health concerns, Indians seemed a little less vain. Indeed, with 1,807 mentions, birth control and menopause ranked higher than skin conditions mentioned 1,008 times in the three-month period.
