Yesterday, division bench of Justices Bilal Nazki and AR Joshi had asked MCGM how much compensation it was ready to pay to Nerurkars. It must not be less than Rs 10 lakh, court had added.
Today, MCGM lawyer told the court that as per the precedence, Rs 5 lakh can be given. Last year, MCGM had paid the same amount to family of a government doctor who died in Bihar while engaged in flood relief work.
"If court orders, we will pay whatever court asks," said senior advocate YS Sakhare, appearing for MCGM.
Not satisfied, judges asked advocate Sakhare to get clear instructions from corporation by tomorrow.
Mohini Nerurkar was admitted to the hospital for delivery, her baby-boy was stolen on January 1, just two days after the delivery.
