Maharashtra state board students from class IX to XII can heave a sigh of relief for now with the state government deciding to put off the idea of separate passing in written and internal assessment, indefinitely.

Following strong demands from the education sector favouring separate passing to improve standards of education, the state education department was to do away with the combined passing system. But in a sudden move, the government has made a u-turn and decided to continue with the practice of combined passing.

In a circular issued on Monday evening, the Secretary of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education K K Patil, states, “There were plans to introduce separate passing instead of current system of combined passing. Currently, a student can score 35% of basic passing marks combined in both forms of assessments (written and internal). Instead of issuing new system of passing as yet, we are deciding to continue with the old one till further notice.”
