Man calls AI office in Thane, threatens to blow up Delhi airport

Air India office in Thane received a call threatening to blow up Delhi airport if the airline refuses to pay him 1 million USD. The call was received at the call centre on Sunday afternoon.

As per the standard operating procedure, a Bomb Threat and Assessment Committee was formed, but concluded the call to be a non-specific threat. Sources said that the caller claimed to be from Pakistan.

"The call received is being investigated and nothing can be said as of now. However, this appears to be another fake caller too," said an Airport Official.

It should be noted that the national carrier has been receiving fake threat calls, following which the local police and airport security agencies swung into action, and the airport too was put on alert. But, the investigations layer revealed most of them to be fake callers, calling with just 'fun' intentions.

mid-day had earlier reported the silly reasons these callers gave to the authorities when they were traced by the police. Cops, in fact, arrested two prank callers in the hope that strong action will discourage others from similar acts. Though such threats are eventually found to be false, the airport is still forced to go on high alert as a precaution, causing major problems for the authorities.
