While the Crime Branch is struggling to compile evidence against Jigna Vora (in pic) for the murder of MiD DAY investigations editor J Dey, one of her associates made an appearance in the special court to hand over a few mobile phones and SIM cards which were allegedly given to him by Vora.
Murtuza, who appeared in the court through his advocate, alleged that he was submitting the evidence, as he feared that the Crime Branch might arrest him.
He also forwarded an interim bail application in the court, anticipating that the Crime Branch would arrest him despite his submission.
After hearing his plea, the court rejected his bail application and asked him to be present for the hearing today.
Dey was shot dead by four bike-borne assailants on June 11 near his home in Powai.
Murtuza, in his submission, alleged that Vora had used the SIM cards and phones to settle a major property dispute involving a prominent personality from south Mumbai who is related to a film star.
He has even made allegations against two prominent Crime Branch officers, saying that one of them was present at the time when the dispute was settled between the two parties.
The Crime Branch officials plan to file the charge sheet in the case by noon today. However, Vora's name will be included only in the supplementary charge sheet that will be filed later.
Said a Crime Branch official, "Settling scores and disputes cannot be done without the interference of the underworld.

Such a submission in the court, that too by one of the accused's associates, gives an indication that the accused might be associated with underworld elements.

With this fresh development, we will once again request the court for her narco-analysis." An earlier application for a narco test on Vora to determine if she was speaking the truth had been rejected.
