The court allowed media houses to publish factual details about the proceedings of the case. However, the court also mentioned that it should be subject to self-regulation.
While arguing the case, special public prosecutor Ujawal Nikam also agreed with the court that media should be allowed to publish factual court proceedings. However, he objected to reports glorifying the image of Qasab.
He specifically made reference to an article published in a Marathi daily, which stated that the Qasab was reading Mahatma Gandhi's biography. He said the report is baseless and not true. Such kind of reportage should be stopped because it ends up projecting Qasab as hero.
He also mentioned that the security arrangements about Qasab should also not be published in newspapers. As the government has the specific inputs regarding the danger to his life from LeT.
