Exactly a week after businessman Manish Dholakia was shot at in his south Mumbai office allegedly over a property dispute with his uncle, another shootout believed to be the outcome of a similar dispute took place near Dockyard Road station late last night.

Two unidentified gunmen shot Akhtar Ansari (60), a trustee of the Madanpura mosque and another mosque in the area, dead when he left his home near the station and was riding out to the Madanpura area on his motorcycle around 10.30 pm. The gunmen were also on a bike.

The incident happened when Ansari slowed down a few meters before the Dockyard Road station.

According to a truck driver who witnessed the shootout, the pillion rider fired a volley of bullets into Ansari's back before speeding away.

The 60-year-old was lying on the road for almost 20 minutes before he was taken to the nearby Prince Ali Khan hospital by a few residents of the area.

He was declared dead on admission. The police have been taking details of the two accused from the truck driver.

Police inspector Raghunath Dabadhe, who was carrying out the panchnama of the spot said, "It is too early to know the exact reason behind the crime.

He was shot dead and we are trying to ascertain the reason behind the crime and find the accused."

Sources close to Ansari said that he was into the real estate business and there had been a property dispute.

Police sources said they were questioning the person Ansari was believed to have the dispute with. He is survived by two wives and six children.
