Motormen join Anna's movement

Anna Hazare's movement for a corruption-free India is gathering steam, quite literally. Motormen on the payroll of the Western Railway have decided to aid Anna in driving the nation into a cleaner future. Nearly 200 motormen congregated at Azad Maidan yesterday to support his cause.u00a0

Devendra Yadav, chief advisor, Paschim Railway Motormen Association, said, "Recently there has been rampant corruption in the nation.

We too have been victimised by corruption and want it wiped off the face of society. We work for 365 days a year, but are not paid commensurately. We are supporting Hazare's cause, hoping that it will lead to a more robust Lokpal bill."

The devoted drivers had originally planned to go to Delhi in order to join Hazare. But, being short-staffed, their departure would have left the railways in shambles.

"We really wanted to visit Delhi, but we must put our duties first. We cannot let passengers suffer. That would defeat the purpose behind Hazare's initiative," said a railway employee. After completing their duties every day, these motormen plan to sit in the Azad Maidan grounds in a display of solidarity with Anna.

Another motorman said, "He is an old man and is fighting for the good of the nation. We should support him in any way we can. The bill has been pending for the past 42 years. It is high time the wait ended. People are supporting the cause, irrespective of their caste and religion. We will not be left out."
