Mukesh Ambani on defaulter's list of MMRDA, owes it Rs 1577 cr: RTI activist

RTI activist Anil Galgali has claimed that Mukesh Ambani, the managing director of Reliance Industries Limited, owes Rs 1577 crores as unpaid premium to MMRDA

In an press release issued to the media by RTI activist Anil Galgali has stated that Mukesh Ambani owes Rs 1577 crores as unpaid premium to MMRDA.


"One of the price industrialists, not only in India, but across the world, is on the defaulter's list of MMRDA for non-payment of premium charges to a tune of Rs 1576 crores 90 lakhs 72 thousand 840. This information was provided to me by the MMRDA administration." said the RTI activist.


It should be noted that the activist had sought information about the outstanding amounts from all categories of lease holders to the MMRDA. MMRDA administration provided Galgali with the list containing information about the private, government and the public sector lease holders.

"This list also mentions the name of Mukesh Ambani-owned Reliance Industries Ltd. In the private sector category, in all 19 cases are there, in which the lease holders were given extended time to start the construction of the project, these extensions resulted in accrual of total Rs 2055 crores 67 lakhs 92 thousand and 876 as premium for the MMRDA. Out the outstanding, MMRDA has received Rs 426 crores 98 lakhs 44 thousand 941. It still has pending dues of Rs 1628 crores 69 lakhs 47 thousand 935. Out of the pending outstandings Reliance alone owes Rs 1576 crores 90 lakhs 72 thousand 840. The outstanding pertains to BKC situated plots G/C -64 ( Rs 1187 crores 59 lakhs 54 thousand 968) & G/C - 66( Rs 389 crores 31 lakhs 17 thousand 872). The development of the plot no G/C - 66 has been completed, whereas the development of plot no G/C - 64 has yet to get completed. The Reliance Industries Ltd has paid Rs 4 lakh 94 thousand 621 as premium against plot no G/RG -1A." the press release said.

it further states that Naman Hotels has paid Rs 8 crores 76 lakhs 28 thousand 100 out of the total outstandings of Rs 32 crores 44 lakhs 57 thousand 739 and has to yet pay Rs 23 crores 68 lakhs 29 thousand 639. The MMRDA has withheld the part OC for the non payment. The Indian Newspaper Society has an outstanding of Rs 28 crores 12 lakhs 70 thousand 629, after it paid Rs 2 crores 65 lakhs 33 thousand 116 out of the Rs 30 crores 78 lakhs 3 thousand 745 which was originally due

The press statement also states that from the Government sector, Rs 27 crores 63 lakhs 25 thousand 68 is due from the Commissioner of Income Tax for two different plots. It has completed the construction on plot G/C -41 to 43 and owes Rs 5 lakhs 56 thousand 59 against it. Whereas it has still to complete the construction on plot G/R - 4C and out of Rs 27 crores 63 lakhs 25 thousand 68 , Rs 4.75 crores is pending. Rs 7 crores 21 lakhs 10 thousand 647 is pending from the Maharashtra Maritime Board.

In a letter sent to CM Devendra Fadnavis and the MMRDA Commissioner UPS Madan, Galgali has demanded that immediate recovery be initiated and the amount be recovered within 30 days with interest. If the amount is not recoverable then, the authority should immediately take the possession of the plot and once again re-alot it to the highest bidder, which will bring revenue to the MMRDA and will help in initiating public development activities.
