A 60-year-old businessman from Colaba was conned by a call girl whom he had met on a social networking app — WeChat — two weeks ago. The girl fled with his iPhone 6 and car after lacing his beverage with sedatives. The incident occurred in the wee hours of Wednesday inside Garden Hotel in Colaba. “When the accused regained consciousness, he realised that his Ford EcoSport and cellphone were missing. He rushed to the police station and registered an FIR,” said a police officer from Colaba police station.

A case has been registered under Sections 380 (theft in dwelling house) and 392 (punishment for robbery) of the IPC, and a manhunt has been launched to nab the girl. During investigations, the police recovered the abandoned four-wheeler from outside Mumbai Central station on Thursday night. When contacted, the complainant refused to comment.
“Prima facie it looks like the accused is a habitual offender and hasn’t left behind a single clue. All the conversations between the two happened on WeChat. Since she has walked away with his phone, it is difficult to retrieve any of their conversations as the app doesn’t have the facility to create online backup. We suspect the accused has left for Delhi as she told the victim that it was her hometown. We have alerted the Delhi police and they too are searching for the girl,” said another officer.
