Mumbai: Father refused to pay for college unless girl let him rape her

A brave teenager who had suffered sexual assault for years from her father finally decided to speak up yesterday, and registered a case of rape against him.

The survivor told the Aarey sub police that the monster dad had been raping her for the past six years and, lately, had taken to holding back money for college fees and books if she didn’t let him have her way with her.

According to the Aarey sub police, the 16-year-old girl lives with her father and two other girls, who are the daughters of a divorced woman who had been living with the family earlier. Police said the accused did odd jobs in the area and the survivor is in the first year of college.

A police officer from Aarey sub police told this paper that the teen approached them in the morning yesterday, saying that her father had been raping her for the past six years. She also told them that he had taken to refusing to pay for her college tuition, books and clothes if she resisted his sexual assault.

He had also barred her from leaving the house and kept threatening her with dire consequences, should she mention the rapes to her mother or anyone else. Police sent the survivor for a medical exam, which revealed she had been raped repeatedly.

Family history
Police said the 46-year-old man had married his wife 17 years ago. She left him after the birth of their daughter, and another woman a divorcee then moved in with him, along with her own two daughters, who are both elder to the survivor but are minors.

This woman herself left the man last year, leaving behind her two girls. The accused allegedly raped these girls as well. Rashmi Jadhav, police inspector at Aarey sub police station, said, “On Wednesday, the father was torturing her and trying to molest and beat the girl.

The survivor ran away from her home and informed us about the incident. She also said her father had been raping her stepsisters for the last many years. We are in the process of recording the statements of the other two girls.”

The accused was booked under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), 2012. He will be produced in court today.
