A tree-fall caused the compound wall of The Arch society along the Vakola pipeline road to fall; one eight-year-old is in a critical condition
Four people died and five others were injured when a portion of a building’s compound wall fell on a shanty in Santacruz on Sunday night. One of the injured, an eight-year-old boy, is critical and was shifted to Nair Hospital late on Monday.

At around 2.30 am on Monday, a tree caused the compound wall of ‘The Arch’ society along Vakola pipeline road to fall. The compound wall reportedly fell on two nearby shanties, killing four people on the spot. The names of the deceased are Pramila Ratnam Raju (28), Abhidya Arjun Kadwal (40), Kadwal Arjun Saroja (40) and a six-year-old child, Santosh Ratnam Arjun.
A post-mortem was conducted on them on Monday afternoon. Five others were also injured in the accident, including four females and one male. The injured are Chinmay Mare (15), Jayshri Ratnam Raju (11), Magesh Velya (35), Dhanlaxmi Chinpayam (19), and they are all stable. Another injured, eight-year-old Parmeshwar Ratnam Arjun, has multiple fractures, and is critical.
“He (the eight-year-old) has a fracture of the pelvic bone and needs a paediatric surgeon. Since that facility is not available here, we are shifting him to Nair Hospital,” said Ashok Ghongade, medical superintendent of V N Desai Hospital, where the injured are undergoing treatment.
The boy had not been admitted to Nair Hospital till Monday evening. “Let us admit him first, only then will I be able to speak about his treatment,” said Ramesh Bharmal, dean of Nair Hospital.
