Yesterday, as the whole world celebrated Valentine’s Day, the Pandey family from Kalyan struggled to cope with the death of a loved one. Prasoon Pandey got married on February 12 and passed out the morning after at his residence. He died within a few hours. The 29-year-old had been suffering from blood cancer and had been receiving treatment from a Dadar clinic for almost four years. His mother Umadevi Pandey confirmed the same.

The incident
The arranged marriage took place on Thursday evening, and the rituals and celebrations lasted all night. On Friday morning, Pandey puked blood and lost consciousness. His relatives rushed him to KEM Hospital, where he was admitted to the emergency ward around 2.30 pm. Within a few hours, he died.
Dr Deepa Patodekar, assistant medical officer, said that the exact cause of death is yet to be ascertained as it can be established only after receiving the post-mortem report. “Generally, when we come across any patient with an extensive medical history of cancer or heart disease, we first try to stabilise the patient from the complication he/she faces and then try to work on the ailment. However in this case, we were yet to diagnose the issue when the patient passed away,” said Patodekar.
When sunday mid-day tried to contact Dr MB Agarwal, hematologist, who was treating Pandey since the past three years, his assistant said he is out of town and will be reachable only on Monday.
