Ignoring a warning from his in-laws, Patel had landed up in Adhoi village in Gujarat’s Kutch district, where Daya and the couple’s kids, Palak (6) and Vyara (7), had been staying since the husband and wife split up in 2012.

After he had met the kids and tried to meet Daya, Patel was beaten up and set ablaze by 13 members of Daya’s family, including her parents and brother. He had sustained 60 per cent burns and had been shifted to the Airoli-based National Burns Centre on May 7, where he passed away at 9.20 am on Saturday.
