Mumbai: Motorcycle-borne snatchers shoot man, steal Rs 25,000

The number of bag-snatching incidents in Malad and Kandivli have risen. The robbers mostly target businessmen and owners of angadia firms. In one such incident, two motorcycle-borne goons fired shots at a trader and looted nearly Rs 25,000 in cash at Kandivli, last afternoon.

The victim was shot at on his hand and leg and is currently undergoing treatment at Shatabdi Hospital. According to officials at the Kandivli police station, the incident took place at around 2.45 pm, in Shankar Lane. Dashaksh Shah and his colleague Deepak Vora were returning from an angadia firm, with Rs 25,000 in cash.

Shah was going to deposit the cash at the angadia and send it to his ailing mother. However, since the angadia was closed, he decided to go home and return the next day. Shah and Vora were on a scooter, when the motorcycle borne youths called out to them.

When Shah stopped his scooter to hear what they were saying, the goon riding pillion tried to snatch the bag containing the money from Vora. Shah tried to resist their efforts by removing his helmet and hitting them with it. Just then, the goon who was riding the bike pulled out a pistol and fired at Shah’s hand.

The pillion rider then removed his pistol and fired at Shah’s leg. The two then managed to snatch the bag from Vora and flee the scene. The police have registered a case under various sections of the IPC, and the Arms Act. Identities of the robbers have not been established yet since their faces were covered with helmets.

Police says
Additional Commissioner of Police (North Region) Fateh Singh Patil said, “It’s not true that one particular gang is targeting businessmen and jewelers in this region. In the last six months, this has been the first case of firing. We are thoroughly checking other related cases and will nab the accused soon.”

Not the first time
A similar incident took place on Monday evening, when two bikers fled after snatching a bag containing Rs 5 lakh from a 51-year-old man. On September 27, snatchers targeted Vijay Jobanputra, when he was repairing his bike on SV Road.

He had Rs 1.30 lakh in his bag. The snatchers also made away with his bike. On August 27, a bag containing Rs 1.5 lakh was stolen from businessman Pratik Goyani’s car, after thieves broke his window.
