The special NSG team landed in the city on August 17 around 10.20 am via an Air India flight (VT PPV). Headed by Colonel Sanjay Kumar, the team comprises 14 officers, 131 commandos, and three canines. The team acquired prior permission from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) to conduct drills at the airside.
An airport official said, “The mock drills conducted throughout the week were performed by the NSG team. No other security agency at the airport was part of it. The drills were conducted across various bays at the airside. We were informed that these drills were part of the NSG training.”
Previous drill
A similar mock drill, featuring Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and Mumbai International Airport Private Limited (MIAL), Airport Security Group (ASG), National Security Guard (NSG), Intelligence Bureau (IB) and local police, was conducted in the last week of May at the airside of the international airport. This annual drill was a rare event because even the Indian Air Force (IAF) and Indian Navy personnel were part of it.
