BMC yet to resolve issue despite receiving complaint from ONGC on June 14 pertaining haphazard garbage dumping in the absence of bins

It has been over a month since the ONGNC first filed an online complaint on the BMC website about improper garbage disposal due the absence of garbage bins near its helibase, the issues is remains unresolved till date.

Speaking to mid-day, an ONGC officer said the first online complaint was registered on June 14 following which it received an assurance for the ward office that the issue would be resolved by June 19. However, nothing has been done till date. The officer added that the mounds of garage attract pigs and stray dogs, which could pose a danger to the operations at the aerodrome. He also said that accumulation of garbage near the helibase violates the aviation norms.

Another officer added that the bins are not only essential for ONGC, but other stakeholders as well. He said the ward office turned down a written follow-up stating that they only accept complaints registered online and would look into the issue soon.
“After the local ward refused to accept our letter, we sent an e-mail to the headquarters on July 25. Presence of garbage near the terminal is not only causing hygiene issues, but also attracting stray dogs and pigs. This could prove disastrous for the air operations,” said a senior ONGC officer.
Another stakeholder claimed they have been facing garbage issues for over a year now and the civic authorities have done nothing about it so far. “Though garbage vans come to collect the waste, its is strewn all over the place. This is a cause of concern for all the stakeholders in the vicinity,” he added.
