Three days after Preeti Bhagekar, who was four months pregnant, was killed, the police found CCTV footage of the area where the accused, Ujwala Veer, was seen damaging the victim’s mobile phone and throwing it in a bin after the murder.

“Veer texted the deceased’s husband before damaging the mobile phone.

It read: ‘I am having affair with KV and I love him too much. Even I (sic) have a child in my stomach and I am pregnant that is because of my boyfriend KV,’” said Investigation officer Uday Rajeshirke of Dahisar police station.

Veer, 22, was the ex-girlfriend of the former’s husband, Prashant Bhagekar. Preeti’s family suspected that Prashant, too, was involved in the murder.
