Although the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections are almost two years away, the poster fight for taking credit for the work done so far, has started between the Shiv Sena and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS).

The bone of contention is the money being spent for the beautification of footpaths in Dadar, which had been the stronghold of the Shiv Sena. However, in the last BMC election, MNS won all the seats.
While MNS’s group leader in the BMC, Sandeep Deshpande has put up hoardings taking credit for the approval of funds. On the other hand, Shiv Sena’s Samadhan Sarvankar, in his posters, claims that the source of the money is the BMC and hence, the credit goes to Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray.
The footpath in question is the one adjacent to Sena Bhawan. When contacted, Deshpande told sunday mid-day, “I have letters to prove that I had done all the work to source the required funds. I wrote to the BMC to sanction the money for the footpaths.”
The Sena’s objection is that when the money spent is from the BMC fund, Deshpande can’t take credit for it. As per Sena, it is part of the project ‘Sundar Mumbai’ mooted by Uddhav Thackeray, and for two years, Rahul Shewale, the then standing committee chairman and now a Member of Parliament from South Central Mumbai, has been the man behind the allocation of funds.
Sarwankar said, “The money being spent is from the BMC funds. Whenever anything goes wrong in the city, Deshpande blames the Sena. Now, when BMC has done something for the people, he wants to take credit for it.”
