Around 11.30 am yesterday, 28-year-old Ajay Kumar Gupta was on a motorbike, heading to Gorai with his 6-year-old son and a friend. When the bullet hit him, he lost control of the bike and all three of them fell down. Passers-by came to help thinking the loud noise and the bike crash was due to a tyre burst.
Gupta was lying unconscious in a pool of blood. It was only later, when he was taken to Kasturi Hospital that doctors found he had a bullet injury on his neck. The Bhayander (west) police were immediately informed and Gupta was shifted to the ICU for medical attention as his health was critical.
Cops went to the firing scene and found a shell from the fired bullet. “At first people thought that it was an accident, but later it came to light that the victim had been shot. We have recovered one round of bullet casing from the spot. Who is behind the crime is still not clear.
We are investigating further,” said an officer from the Bhayander police station, adding that eyewitnesses had said that an Omni had passed by the victim’s bike at the time of the incident. According to the eyewitnesses, the accused might have been shot from that car.
