Police said on December 20, the family had abducted the man, strangulated him to death and dumped his body near Shahpur.
According to the police, Babu Shettiyar and the 18-year-old were in a relationship for the past four years. Shettiyar also had a criminal record. The teenager's family had warned Shettiyar several times and threatened him with consequences.
On December 20, around 9pm, the Mulund police took Shettiyar and three others to the police station and fined them for drinking on the road. They were let go around 11pm and while they waited outside the police station, an autorickshaw approached them and asked Shettiyar to sit inside. His friends noticed that Geeta and her family were present in the auto.
"They took the auto towards Thane. When Babu did not return home in the morning, his brother Arun Shettiyar rushed to the police station and filed missing complaint," an officer from Mulund police station said.
He said the CCTV footage showed a few people dragging Shettiyar inside the auto. His associates then narrated the previous night's incident.
Police said Shettiyar's family approached Geeta and her family and she said that they had murdered him. His family then approached the police station and got in touch with the Shahapur police who told them that they had found a body on December 21 and registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR).
