In December 2019, the Anti-Terrorism Squad, Juhu Unit of the Mumbai Police team had arrested accused Mahendra Parshuram Patil (49) and Santosh Balasaheb Adake (29) who were involved in trafficking of narcotic substance MD (Mephedrone) powder and seized 14.30 kg of MD drugs worth Rs 5.60 Crore from Vileparle, Mumbai and Saswad, Pune.

In pursuance of this, an offence was registered under sections 8 (C), 22, 29 NDPS Act, 1985 at ATS. Since then, the two arrested accused have been kept in judicial custody.

During further investigation, ATS Juhu unit P.I. Daya Nayak and A.P.I. Sagar Kungir thoroughly investigated the activities of the arrested accused Santosh Balasaheb Adake. The investigation revealed that Adake had manufactured MD (Mephedrone) at Shree Alfa Chemicals at Purandar taluka in Pune.
"On February 19, ATS Juhu unit carried out a raid at the factory and seized 10.500 kg MD drugs worth around Rs. 4.2 Crore and raw chemical, MD manufacturing unit cost is approx. Rs 1.2 crore," said a senior officer at ATS.
According to experts, 200 kg of MD (worth Rs 80 Crore) may be produced from the seized raw chemicals.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of ATS Chief Deven Bharti and other senior officers including Jayant Naiknavare, Vikram Deshmane, Dr. Vinaykumar Rathod and ACP, Shripad Kale by PI Daya Nayak, API Sagar Kunjir, Dashrath Vitkar, Sachin Patil, PSI Rawool and staff.
