Mumbai Crime: Police arrests passport agent absconding since 2004

Akhtar Kutbuddin Ahmad Hussaini

A 50-year-old visa agent, who was absconding since 2015, arrested by the Mumbai crime branch Unit 10 on Friday. Police said that the arrested accused used to sell fake passports.

According to the police, the accused, identified as Akhtar Kutbuddin Ahmad Hussaini is a passport agent by profession and a resident of Versova and was arrested in a 2004 case after being deported from Dubai for selling fake passports to customers in the city. However, he was out on bail and never arrived at Esplanade court for the hearing. The Court then declared him as an absconder and issued a non-bailable warrant against him.

After receiving bail from Esplanade Court, Akhtar went to Meerut and began his fake passport making business. He was then arrested in 2011 by the Uttar Pradesh government. He has more than one case against him in Uttar Pradesh. After being released in 2015, Akhtar became non-traceable since he went into hiding in various places for the past three years. API Wahid Pathan and API Shobha Kharat, who were assigned to the case, found his location in Delhi after a tip-off. Two constables were immediately sent to New Delhi.

A police official familiar with the matter said that Akhtar had two passports with two different names. He had a duplicate passport under Mohammad Sayyed Hussain. He added, "Akhtar is very expert in making fake passports, and used to prepare an almost original type of passport."

A case has been registered against the accused under sections 406, 419, 466, 467, 468, 474 of Indian Penal Code.
