Robbers armed with sickels and sword tried to attack Bilaskar

All eyes at the Crime Conference held on Tuesday morning were on 28-year-old Rajkiran Bilaskar, a constable attached to Wadala TT Police station, who chased down robbers for 45 minutes and nabbed one of the two. Robbers armed with sickels and sword tried to attack Bilaskar. While in this nail-biting thriller, one robber managed to get away, but Bilaskar managed to nab the other. Top cop rewarded Constable Bilaskar with cash 20,000 rupees.

On midnight of January 31, Rajkiran Bilaskar was stationed on a night shift. While patrolling near MHADA Colony, he witnessed a Maruti Esteem car speeding away. Sensing something amiss, Bilaskar stsrted following car. "As I started following the car, he sped up. He must have crossed 100 km/hr mark. He reached Imax Wadala and when he saw me following him, he slowed down and stopped the car near Imax, Wadala," said Bilaskar. "I saw one person was sitting at driver's seat and the other one was at behind. He talked calmly, and apologised for overspeeding. When I demanded to see the papers of the vehicle he got baffled and before I could react, he took off. I somehow managed to save myself from being run down," Bilaskar added.
Bilaskar begun pursuit again, this time he took his car to Eastern Freeway, after suspicion over a stolen vehicle. Bilaskar was chasing the car on his patrolling bike. After reaching Kokri Agar, the driver took the right turn and went towards Pratiksha Nagar. After reaching Pratiksha Nagar depot the car took two rounds after which the tyres burst.
"I saw the opportunity and ran towards the car after parking my bike. The person at the driver's seat got off the car. When I got to him I saw a sword in his hand with which he tried to attack me," narrates Bilaskar.
"After he missed, he made his way to the alley of the building. I had gone some 50 feet away from the car but when I looked back, the person in the passenger's seat made a run to. I began chasing him and then picked a stone and hurled it at him" told Bilaskar.
Watching Bilaskar throwing a stone at the accused, 4 boys also enacted the same by picking up a stone to hurl at him, which made him slow down after which Bilaskar nabbed him.
"The arrested accused is identified as Firoz Malik Sheikh (32) and we suspect he is involved in robberies and housebreaking. The car (MH-12-CY-7236) which was found was also stolen from Bhoiwada on 13th January" said an officer. "We are trying to find out if they used this vehicle for other crimes," the officer added. The accused Firoz has been booked under various sections of IPC, Bombay Police Act and Arms Act. Cops have recovered 3 sickles from him and are searching the one who fled.
When Senior Inspector of Wadala TT Ankush Katkar got to know about the case, he awarded Bilaskar. Mumbai Police Commissioner Subodh Jaiswal rewarded Bilaskar and announced a cash reward of Rs 20,000 during the Crime Conference held on Tuesday morning. "I am really honored and touched as my work was recognized by Senior Inspector, ACP and all top bosses," commented Bilaskar.
