The food industry, like the rest, has also witnessed a massive change. Everybody is an online food critic, and home chefs are celebrities in their own right.
A recent addition to this space is The Eat Post that posts recipes, news and trends from across the food industry. The jury is still out on how long the wow factor will last.
Colour for a cause
What’s could be better way to spread awareness about HIV/AIDS than posting messages on the city’s walls? With this thought, students from 20 colleges picked up the brush to create colourful graffiti in a bid to highlight issues about HIV/AIDS.
mid-day photographer Shadab Khan spotted a few students creating art outside the Mumbai District AIDS Control Society on Saturday. The drive was organised in association with Project MAD (Murals and Doodles).
More power to the celebrity author
The India edition of one the world’s biggest business magazines recently revealed their list of nominees for the coveted celeb list of 100.
Twinkle Khanna, Sachin Tendulkar, Jairam Ramesh
A total 2,100 celebrities made it as nominees. While Bollywood (actors and film directors) and TV saw the maximum entrants, sports stars and musicians didn’t fare too bad. What came as a surprise was that comics and authors made it to this grand list as well.
This diarist found the nominees under the latter category particularly intriguing, from politicians, Derek O’Brien and Jairam Ramesh to sporting icons, Milkha Singh and Sachin Tendulkar, and star wife and writer, Twinkle Khanna. We can’t wait to see who makes it to the final 100, to be announced on December 11.
Inside Kunal Basu’s Kalkatta
The eye-catching illustrated cover (by Pinaki De) aside, the book jacket caught our attention for many reasons. For one, cine legend Sharmila Tagore endorses Kunal Basu’s latest, Kalkatta (Pan Macmillan) when she writes, ‘Kunal Basu’s compelling portrait of life in a marginalised ghetto urges us to rethink our commonplace assumptions about illegal migrants, illicit occupations and our own moral self-righteousness.’

Jazz it up in sunny Goa
Although Goa needs no reason to have you visiting. The third edition of Goa International Jazz Live Festival might be the much-needed nudge.

It is scheduled to take place from November 27 to 29, near Santarem Beach, Bogmalo. The artiste line-up includes Vivienne Pocha Ensemble (India), Mezcal Jazz Unit (France), Aldoc (Ireland), Dainius Pulauskas Group (Lithuania), Khamira (Wales, UK/India), Alex Stuart Quintet (Australia) and Gabacho Maroconnection (Morocco). Cue in the trumpets.
