Shettys’ got the power
Taking a break from her busy shooting schedule, it was family time for Shilpa Shetty Kundra this weekend. She headed to a popular amusement park off the Mumbai-Pune expressway with husband Raj Kundra and son Viaan. Thoroughly impressed by how much the place had in store for kids, she congratulated Pooja Shetty Deora for the great job she had done with the place, adding it takes a Shetty to do it. Talk about community bonding.

Gandhigiri lessons for Puneites
In times, when Gandhian principles are increasingly being challenged, a discussion organised in Pune yesterday sought to dispel some myths shrouding the Mahatma’s philosophy. Tushar Gandhi (in pic), Gandhi’s great-grandson and author of the book, Let’s Kill Gandhi!, was the chief speaker at the discussion.

The event also saw the launch of Gandhian scholar Sanket Munot’s book, Ek Dhairyasheel Yoddha: Gandhi. “While several theories about the reasons for the Mahatma’s assassination abound, such as his involvement in the Partition, it was a murder being planned for many years, even before the whole idea of India and Pakistan was born,” Munot told us. The book also has over 200 lesser-known nuggets of Gandhi’s philosophy.

A Yen for every creation
When it comes to Japanese cuisine, Mumbai’s gourmets can now tell a nigiri from a maki blindfolded. So, to keep the novelty factor going, Yuuka’s celebrated chef Ting Yen along with his son has brought some of the dishes recently introduced in his Boston restaurant to Mumbai. And this time, his creations are inspired by Peruvian cuisine. Purple Potatoes, truffle oil, dried mushrooms, and lamb apart from local spices like cumin and ginger find their way into the latest menu. Now, that’s what we call truly glocal.

Vir Das’ collection
Postal stamps, ticket stubs, postcards. Globetrotting folk have different ways to collect memorabilia each time they conquer a new country or region. Rarely does it bring in returns, though.

Our desi funnyman and actor, Vir Das seems to have managed a far more thrifty option. He tweeted over the weekend: Do this stupid thing when I travel. Never spend my change. Save it for the airport. Bonus gift! Here’s 42 pounds :-) Now that’s what we call cost-effective travel.

From Russia, with love
The newly restored Royal Opera House seems abuzz with cultural events already. After hosting the grand opening ceremony of a city film fest, it is all geared up for the opening day of yet another film festival. The second edition of Russian Film Days in Mumbai starts on November 15, and after the opening, films will be screened at Andheri’s Cinepolis.

The festival is an initiative of Cinemarus Production Company with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Russian Filmmakers Union. Spread over four days, movies across genres, such as Versus, Good boy, Icebreaker, Friday, Queen of Spades and The Crew will be screened at the festival. Didn’t we say we just love this time of the year?
