The show, which begins today, will celebrate his designs from eight inspirations across the globe. This, of course, is common knowledge. We’ve got an exclusive sneak peek for mid-day readers. It’s a sketch from Arora’s collection, based on Ayenkari (mirror work).
The designer spells it out, “Travel across beautiful locales with rich cultural heritage has served as the sole inspiration for the couture collection this year. From Istanbul, China, Africa, Eastern Europe to Thailand, Bali and my home ground, India, I’ve interpreted each design story with an element from these regions as inspiration.”
This line will showcase a bright jeweled palette with muses such as the Thailand’s Buddhist temples, the Topkapi palace in Istanbul, the dramatic Chinese Opera, Afro-Cuban masks, Oaxacan beaded embroidery, Kosovo brides, Indian paisleys and carvings on Bali doors presenting a platter full of rich global ideas rooted in Indian tradition.

Co-founder LocalOwls.com, Sucharita Choudhury, told this diarist, “The focus for this event is going to be on food. Social media is the best platform to bring India’s foodies together.” We’ll believe.
Our friend, Fidel Castro
Of cigars and rum: Quick wit always makes our day. One such incident that raised a few chuckles this week was a letter signed by ‘Fidel Castro’.
This thank-you letter was addressed to us after we had recently reviewed a Cuban-themed bar in the city. Adding to the glee, was a box of moustache-shaped cookies and marzipan cigars. Shall we call for another round of Cuba Libre, now?
