The officials suffered head accidents with open cranium fractures

Two railwaymen, including a senior section engineer and a track maintainer were runover by a speeding local train during heavy rains at Khar station on Tuesday.

Officials said that 48-year-old Raj Kumar Sharma, senior section engineer (permanent way) and trackman 40-year-old Nagesh Sawant were on their way to attend necessary track work in Bandra-Khar section, next to Churchgate-bound slow track when a fast local train on the same line hit them around 12:08 am.
The train was brought to a halt immediately by motorman Jeevan Kanojia and the train guard Chandra Shekhar Sirasat reported the incident to the control room. Kanojia said in his statement that it was raining heavily and he had been honking and on spotting these two near tracks, he applied emergency brakes, but in vain.
The injured were immediately taken to Bhabha Hospital at about 1 am but were declared "brought dead" having head injuries with open skull fracture.
"This unfortunate incident will be dealt as run over on-duty and suitable compensation and other benefits will be provided to their families as per extant law," stated a WR spokesperson.
