The men, who were allegedly drunk, fired two bullets at the 25-year-old and managed to escape from the scene
When 25-year-old Tabrez Asif Jethwa boarded the Ambernath-bound local from Dadar on Friday night, little did he know that he would end up getting shot and admitted to a hospital.
A driver by profession, Jethwa boarded the luggage compartment of the local train at 11.30 pm, just as the train was leaving the platform. “I was sitting down when four men entered the compartment at Vikhroli station. One of them hit my foot. I asked him to be careful. That’s when the fight started,” said Jethwa, who is undergoing treatment at Sion Hospital and is now out of danger.

According to the railway police, who took Jethwa’s statement and went through the CCTV footage of the station premises, the four men behaved roughly with Jethwa and other train passengers. When the train arrived at Nahur railway station at 12.05 midnight, the quartet got off the train and one of them fired two bullets at Jethwa. While one hit his right hand, the other injured his shoulder. On hearing the gunshots, the passengers pulled the train’s emergency chain. Jethwa was then rushed to Agrawal hospital in Mulund.
“We thought the fight was over as both the parties apologised to each other. But after getting down, one of the men fired at Jethwa and all of them ran away,” said Alwin Nadar, a passenger in the coach. One of the four accused ran towards Mulund while the rest went towards Bhandup. The police have started a search to nab the four.
Pramod Babar, Inspector, Government Railway Police (Kurla), who is in charge of the case said, “The four men seemed to be in a inebriated state and got into a fight with Jethwa, after which some of the passengers intervened and asked them to calm down. We have registered a case and are looking for them. The Kurla GRP is currently busy analysing the CCTV footage and making the sketches of the four accused.u00a0
