A 23-year-old man stabbed himself to death in order to escape arrest, after beating up his friend and leaving him seriously injured. However, the accused died in the hospital.

The friends, identified as Latif Sheikh (23) and Faiyaz Sheikh (22), were residents of Malwani Colony in Malad and used to work for a private company.

According to police officials, on May 16, Latif and Faiyaz fought over a ride on their friend Abdul Sheikh's bike. Latif ended up hitting Faiyaz, and this left him seriously injured.

Latif proceeded to take Faiyaz to Shatabdhi Hospital, where doctors informed him that Faiyaz was seriously injured and that his throat was damaged.

They also told him that as this is a police case, they will have to inform the officials immediately.

This scared Latif, who then stabbed himself more than thrice with a knife outside the hospital. He complained to the doctors that Faiyaz had stabbed him earlier and the doctors admitted Latif as well.

He was later shifted to Nair hospital, where he passed away on Wednesday. After his death, the Malwani police registered a murder case against Faiyaz and arrested him.

Earlier, they had registered a case against both Latif and Faiyaz. The PSI at the Malwani police station remained unavailable for comment.
