Aarey got a breather last night, with the Shiv Sena, MNS and the Congress voting in favour of deleting the proposed metro car shed from the green lung, even as the BJP, NCP and Samajwadi Party voted in favour of a metro car depot at Aarey.
Congress corporator from Bandra West, Asif Zakaria, said, "A vote was sought on the issue of the car depot at Aarey and 117 corporators voted against the car depot proposal, while 81 corporators voted in favour."
The discussion on the DP-2034 began on Monday afternoon at the BMC headquarters and went on till 2 am today. Stalin D from NGO Vanashakti said, "We are thankful to the parties who have opposed the car shed. We hope other political parties understand the importance of saving the forested patches of Mumbai."
