A man allegedly committed suicide yesterday morning by jumping in front of an oncoming train at Sakinaka metro station, due to which the services were disrupted for over an hour.
The victim, Uday Kumar Prasad (25), from Madhubani district in Bihar, jumped in front of the Ghatkopar-bound Metro train around 9.20 am. Soon the station staff informed the Sakinaka police, who took the body for identification and autopsy.
“The particular train was evacuated and the services were disrupted. The trains were running in short loops and on single track,” said a Mumbai Metro One spokesperson, adding that the normal traffic resumed at 10.45 am.
A police official said that the cause of this suicide was not known. Senior PI Avinash Dharmadhikari of Sakinaka police station confirmed that he is from Bihar.
“We have contacted the Bihar police and they are searching for his family. As soon as we get in touch with them, we can get an idea as to why he committed suicide,” said Dharmadhikari.
