A Bandra hakim (48) raped the child who was living with her relatives in the suburb after drugging her in his house; threatened to kill her and her family if she opened her mouth
The Bandra police have arrested a 48-year-old maulana, who moonlights as a hakim, for raping a 12-year-old girl in Bandra on Monday. The accused Tahir Ansari lured the girl by telling her he would give her a remedy to keep her in good health if she came away with him. When she agreed, he drugged her and then raped her.

Ansari has been charged with rape and remanded in police custody. According to the FIR, the accused threatened the victim with dire consequences, saying that if she told anyone about what he had done, he would kill her as well as her family. Though based in Bangalore, the victim has been residing in Bandra (W) with her uncle and aunt for the last three years for education. Terrified of the threat, she kept mum about the crime except telling a close school friend. But her friend informed the victim’s kin.
The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon, when the minor was heading to school. Ansari, also a Bandra resident, intercepted her and told her that he had some medicines that would keep her fit and strong and relieve her of any body aches, the victim said. She fell for his ruse and he took her to his house, locking the door. He then asked her to swallow a black pill, she said. When she did, she passed out and Ansari raped her. When she came back to her senses after two hours, the accused raped her again and threatened her into keeping her mouth shut.
Said the victim’s uncle, “I am horrified. I don’t know why she kept quiet for so long.” The relatives then devised a trap to nab Ansari red-handed. When Ansari asked the victim to visit him again, the minor’s uncle asked her to go to his house on Sunday evening. When the victim went to his house, Ansari locked the door. Soon enough, the relatives barged in and caught him in the act. He was handed over to the Bandra police.
The Bandra police have charged Ansari under sections 376 (rape), 328 (poisoning) and 342 (wrongful confinement). He was produced in court on Monday and remanded in police custody. The victim’s uncle added, “The accused should be given maximum punishment. He has made the child’s life a living hell. She is in trauma.”
Deja vu
Last month, a masjid trustee in Govandi sodomised a 13-year-old girl in a madrassa. The accused, Niyaz Ahmad Hasan Raza, 70, told the child he had composed a poem for her and would like to recite it to her in the madrassa. The unsuspecting girl was on her way to school to write an exam but she agreed to go with him. At the madrassa, he shut her in and violated her. He also circulated an MMS clip of the incident in the locality. The neighbours eventually showed the clip to her parents. He was arrested on January 10.
