Narri Akhilesh Aaria, a Romania-based man of Indian origin, is accused of cheating half a dozen businessmen of millions of rupees by promising them industrial machinery and tools at cheaper rates
The Mulund police have got custody of a Romania-based NRI , who is accused of duping several Indians on the pretext of providing them with foreign machineries at cheaper rates. The Kurlapolice had arrested the accused Narri Akhilesh Aaria, 30, on November 12, after which he was remanded to jail custody. Later, a fresh FIR was registered with Mulund police who then obtained his custody.

According to the cops, Aaria owns a firm called SSC Narri Machinery Import Export SLR. He had cheated a Kurla-based businessman of Rs 33 lakh. Speaking to Sunday MiD-DAY, businessman Ashfaq Khan said, “The dealing took place in 2011 and I deposited Rs 33 lakh in his account to procure sheet metal and tool room machineries. Later he started ignoring my calls and didn’t reply to my mails. When I contacted the Romanian authorities, they informed me that I had been cheated and need to file a criminal case. Recently he replied to one of my mails and we laid a trap for him.”
According to the cops Aaria acted as a middleman promising he hand over scrap machineries, which had been used by Russian companies for 10 to 15 years, at cheaper rates. An officer from Kurla police station said, “The complainant got to know Aaria through his father. The father asked him to contact Aaria for machineries and he said that would offer a good price.”
u00a0“He was arrested on November 12 after Khan called him to a hotel in Kurla for a fresh deal. That is when we arrested him,” added the officer. Later on November 15 another case of cheatingwas lodged with the Mulund police when a Mulund-based businessman, Tarvinder Singh Moka accused Aaria of owing him Rs Rs 15 lakh.
An officer from Mulund police station said, “Moka came to know through newspaper reports that an NRI has been arrested after which he lodged a complaint with us. We have got the custody of Aaria till November 27.” According to Moka, the two met in Germany during an exhibition and later decided to set up a business together. Aaria had then promised to provide Moka with machineries at cheaper rates.
