MiD DAY's report about NSG commando Om Prakash Shukla being harassed by his senior in Marol ('Commando or slave?', January 28) has prompted a call from the Director General's office in Delhi asking him to leave the city and report there.

MiD DAY had reported how Major Mohammad Ismail allegedly made the commandos of his unit shine his shoes, wash his laundry and run sundry errands.

Om Prakash Shukla.

Shukla confirmed that he has been called to Delhi.

When he was asked why he ran the risk of complaining against his seniors despite the possible repercussions, he said he was feeling suicidal and couldn't take it anymore.

"I was tortured by this major. I was so fed up that I would have committed suicide. But, I am a commando and cannot think of such an act while I am a part of the NSG, which is one of the best security agencies in the country.

My committing suicide would have ruined the NSG's name," he said.

"We are taught to fight and not leave the field. Hence, I made up my mind that even if others won't speak against him, I would. I will fight till the end, till he is punished.

I was not allowed to take leave even when my family needed me the most. This has been the case with many, but they are afraid to speak up," he added.

Shukla is on leave and is supposed to join the NSG on February 3.
