The state appointed NV Merani committee today presented the security control and regulation measures in the BMC headquarters.

The committee had put forward recommendations such as recomming amendments to DC rules to incorporate regulations for bomb blast resistant structures, integrate explosive alarm, detection and deactivation system, provide police chowkies as a mandatory requirement etc.
The state government after getting lot of quieries from citizens regarding the safety and security of life at vulnerable locations like hotels, work places, malls, building complexes, appointed the committee on September 11, 2008.
The queries were received in the wake of threats like terrorist attacks and riots. The committee was headed by NV Merani, former Principal Secretary.

"We have made quiet recommendations like making blast resistant buildings. Though it isn't practically possible, we have asked to design it in a way that there is less loss of life and property. Other recommendations are CCTV at prominent places, security audit. It will be necessary to have digitalized maps too," said AT Shintre, chief engineer, development planning, BMC.
u00a0"The state government has accepted the recommendations and issued a notification. However these recommendations are not for all buildings. We have categorized buildings in three parts. Police will help in the categorization," said NV Merani.
u00a0In addition to the blast resistant structural design, certain architectural guidelines on mitigating factors have also been recommended.
