One-sided love was behind the murder of the woman whose body was found in a suitcase at Navi Mumbai on Monday. The Navi Mumbai police have arrested a 20-year-old for brutally killing the 22-year-old, who was his colleague at a salon. The accused claimed he was in love with her and was angry as she got engaged, and after a heated argument, killed her on the night of July 30.
According to the police, the woman identified as Mariyum Shaikh, was a resident of Govandi, while the accused, Imran Salmani, is from Uttar Pradesh.

"On the morning of July 31, Mahendra Tandel (41) from Karve village near Palm Beach, was headed to his farm, when he saw a blue bag lying in the grass. He found red water around it and got suspicious. He informed the NRI coastal police station. We found the body of a girl in her early 20s inside. Her head and body was cut into two pieces," said Prashant Burde, Joint Commissioner of Police, Navi Mumbai.
Clues in CCTV footage
A case was registered at NRI coastal police station under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and a photo of the deceased was circulated. "A constable found that the woman worked in a salon called Graceful, in Sector 44. We got some clues during the investigation. The CCTV footage in the salon showed suspicious movements of the accused and few scratch marks on his neck. So we detained and questioned him, after which he confessed to the crime," added Burde.

"The accused was arrested late on Monday night and on Tuesday he was produced in court and remanded in police custody for eight days," said Sudhakar Pathare, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Navi Mumbai.
Killed her in rage
The duo worked in the same salon in Chembur. "Later, the accused joined the Navi Mumbai salon and the woman joined it a month ago. He claimed that he was in love with the girl, but she got engaged. On Sunday night he proposed to her but as she refused, after an argument he assaulted and brutally killed her. He then took his friend's Scooty and threw the body between 12:30am and 1am on Monday," said an official from NRI police station.
