State Board to replace books on optional subjects like French and German written by international authors with those written by Indians

The Maharashtra State Bureau of Textbook Production & Curriculum Research too is ready with textbooks for the changed syllabus of grade IX and XI for the coming academic year, beginning in June. This includes textbooks on a new subject introduced for the first time- Information and Communication Technology.
Abha Dharampal, principal of Utpal Sanghvi School, Juhu, said, "For the first time, children will get to refer to state board textbooks for international languages. Our school have many students opting for them, but have always referred the books by international authors."
Sangeeta Srivastava, principal, The Kandivli Education Society, also welcomed the move. "We have students who have come in from other states and have opted for subjects like German and French. The new textbooks on these languages will definitely benefit such students who do not wish to go for Marathi, Hindi or any regional language."
Amol Dhamdhere, secretary, Indian Education Society, hopes that the writers of these books have sufficient knowledge of the subject. "This move will also up the standard of our syllabus and bring it on par with other boards."
Shahaji Dhekne, chairman in-charge, State Education Board, confirmed the move.
